"Stepping on stage, I looked out on a sea of disinterested faces. Then, I did something I advise my clients never to do, I went off-book. I pulled out the Wall Street Journal and held it up, 'Is getting in this publication your goal?' Heads nodded. I said, 'I’m here to help you get the coverage you deserve.'”
The inspiration for the book comes from all the communications professionals I’ve worked with and the clients we’ve served. It’s intended to demystify media relations and help people, at all levels, understand the art and science behind what communications professionals do to get those coveted interviews and cover stories.
My creativity comes from people, snippets of conversation I overhear that make me ask the question, “What if…” The other day I was talking to an old friend when in passing she mentioned after twenty years her drug dealer was back in town and he wanted his painting. From that one thing, my mind starting working.
